Abusive terms that went out of fashion
|
Sat in the pub the other night with a mate, and a bloke behind us described how somebody he knew was acting like a right 'Flid'...couldn't help but laugh, can't remember hearing that since the 70/80's! Mind you it was in darkest Somerset.
Any other terms that just died a death?

Cad, scoundrel and bounder are a few I've never heard in real life, but have a sense of style, to my ear.

Fucking PC brigade helped kill off loads of good insults.
Anything relating to spastics seems to have died out.
Berk is also a dying breed of a harmless insult.

The word "bastard" is almost never used as a cutting insult these days.
In the 90s, someone calling someone a bastard carried a lot of weight.
Used to get beeped out on telly and all sorts.
Also the word "bloody".
And "tosh".
"I don't bloody care about all that tosh you absolute bastard" on a TV show like Cracker in the 90s.
"I don't give a fuck about that shit you cunt" in the 2010s.

Shouldn't it really be Thalid?
Though no cunts going to pronounce it like that, I know.

It is worth being a bit creative with your abuse if you want it to rise above the general limited vocabulary many people are happy to adopt these days. Most of the words that were considered top-level abuse when I was young, are now just adjectives for some. Err, innit.

Pillock Berk Pratt Tit Wally Sap
All common terms in the 70's and have sort of died nowadays. All seemed a bit more descriptive than the generic Wankers and Cunts nowadays.

I was having an argument with a Manc mate about 'Joey,' only a month or two ago. He reckoned it was some bollocks to do with Mancs calling taxi drivers Joeys. Didn't believe me even when I slapped the back of my hand and went 'Joeeeey'
Fucking Joey.
